     Biography

 

 

 

 

 
Jenny Robinson serves as Principal Flute of the Canton Symphony Orchestra.  She also holds the position of 3rd Flute/Piccolo with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and the Akron Symphony Orchestra.  She has most recently served as a substitute flute/piccolo for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony and the Ann Arbor Symphony.   
 
Jenny has previously held positions with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic (Acting Principal Flute and Second Flute), Alabama Symphony (Assistant Principal Flute), Southwest Florida Symphony (3rd Flute/Piccolo) and Oakland Symphony (Principal Flute).  She has been a season substitute flute/piccolo with the Chicago Lyric Opera and worked with Grand Rapids Symphony, Summit Choral Society, Miami City Ballet, Florida Grand Opera and American Ballet Theatre.

 

Jenny earned her BMus(Hons) degree at the Royal College of Music, London, where she received a full scholarship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.  She subsequently received a scholarship to attend San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she received her M.M.

 

Jenny attended Music Academy of the West

for two summers where she received a flute

fellowship and was a winner in the MAW

Concerto Competition.  She received first place

awards in the National Flute Association's

Orchestral Audition Competition and the Flute

Society of Washington's Piccolo Artist

Competition.  She was a prize winner in the

Walfrid Kujala International Piccolo Competition, as well as at the National Flute Association High School and Piccolo Competitions.  She also received awards from the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts and was named a Yamaha Young Performing Artist.  Her audition highlights including reaching the final round of the LA Philharmonic Principal Flute audition as well as the finals of the Chicago, Boston, St. Louis and Chicago Lyric Opera piccolo auditions.

Jenny's teacher's have included Mary Bell, Rae Yeager, George Pope, Susan Milan, Simon Channing, Paul Edmund-Davies, Stewart McIlwham, and Tim Day.  She has performed in masterclasses with Mathieu Dufour, Jeanne Baxtresser, Mary Kay Fink and Robert Dick, among others.

Jenny has taught all levels of flute students from beginners to post-collegiate flutists. At the collegiate level, she has most recently served as the flute instructor at Indiana-Purdue University, Fort Wayne and as Visiting Professor at the University of Miami, Florida. 

  

As a member of the Kalamazoo Symphony, Jenny performs with the Kalamazoo Symphony educational woodwind quintet.  The quintet is very active in the greater Kalamazoo area, visiting schools to perform and talk about music. 


Jenny has worked with students in concert and marching bands, chamber ensembles, flute choirs and youth symphonies.  At IPFW, she often presented middle school and high school honor band clinics and visited area schools for section coaching.  Having participated in many performances and competitive musical events, Jenny enjoys preparing students to excel in their performances and auditions.
